Tribute to Dr. Jay Herrington, DMD

Dr. Jay Herrington, our good friend and dentist died suddenly this past February. Debbie wrote a tribute to him in part, because my secretary, Gallagher accused me of ordering her to use the ACSO postage machine to send a Far Side cartoon and note I had written to Jay. If you have an old Far Side daily calendar, it was the January 11, 2007, cartoon where a dentist was working on a patient and there were the suction, the gauze, the tools, etc. in this patients mouth and the dentist looks at his assistant and says to get a tennis ball to see if that would fit in his mouth, too. I know Jay got a kick out of it.

For some nine years I had either used my own stamps, bought some for the office or bummed from Gallagher (always replenishing) from under the blotter at her desk and put a note on the outgoing for postage instead of just dropping it in the “outbox” for the meter! This time though she decided to run it through the meter and then reported it to her new best buddy, Withey, one of Darnell’s “yes boys.” (Gallagher was miffed because I would not pre date a leave slip request denying annual leave so she wouldn’t lose it from her bank of accrual, thus a good way to get back at me!)

Jay, we miss you; rest in peace.
