Mike Kittel's Statement

Mike Kittel had been a detective with the sheriff’s office. Then he left to go with FDLE. After his interview for this case and my departure from the sheriff’s office Kittel was rehired as a deputy by Darnell. Now, I was on the law enforcement side for 20 years and a supervisory investigator. I also knew that Nagel had a lot of home burglaries against him. I have never indicated I would not pursue criminal charges, ever. What I told Kittel, knowing all the charges against Nagel, that if all the cases were put into a package, to contact me and I would give him a statement to call me or if he didn’t need it by authority of the state attorney, I would be okay with that decision. (After all, it was a bicycle that I had recovered which had been taken from my open garage.)

I can also tell you that Kittel didn’t even want to pursue my case until I asked his major if he could have him follow-up with me, if necessary to get Nagel to feel comfortable with him for a more comprehensive interview. That was my only reason for going.

Interestingly, there had been a phone message, written by Gallagher that was from another detective who worked with Kittel on Nagel and he thanked me for the information about Nagel, as it had turned out good! That phone message is in the Document Index.
